KINGSTON TOWNSHIP — An infamous area landmark will be sold at auction on May 26, but interested bidders got a sneak preview Saturday.
An open house was staged Saturday at the former home of accused killer Hugo Selenski at 479 Mount Olivet Rd. Realtor Barbara Edwards had a steady stream of potential bidders.
“We were swamped,” she said.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service seized the property in October 2004.
Between 40 and 50 people came to see the house before its auction, but Edwards said curiosity drew only a few locals. Most prospective buyers came from New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia, places somewhat removed from the home’s dark history.
Sinister activities aside, the home has its selling points. It’s situated on six-plus acres of land in a quiet but upscale neighborhood.
The fixer-upper, built 26 years ago, has a spacious living room with hardwood floors, high ceilings and a stone fireplace. A wrap-around porch goes around most of the house, and an in-ground swimming pool with a diving board sits just to the home’s left.
While work is needed on the pool, it’s minor compared to the work needed inside. Code violations are also commonplace, as light fixtures are missing and wires are exposed in nearly every room.
